Bhubaneswar: Milk prices are set to rise across Odisha as the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) has announced revised retail rates for its popular milk variants from October 4.
Under the new pricing, Toned milk will see the biggest increase of Rs 4 per litre, rising from Rs 54 to Rs 58 per litre. The price of the 500-ml packet will increase by Rs 2.
The retail price of OMFED Premium milk will rise by Rs 2 per litre, from Rs 58 to Rs 60 per litre. Its 500-ml packet will cost Rs 1 more.
Similarly, OMFED Gold Plus milk will become costlier by Rs 2 per litre, increasing from Rs 64 to Rs 66 per litre. The price of the 500-ml packet will also go up by Rs 1.
The price revision follows OMFED’s decision to increase the milk procurement rate paid to dairy farmers by Rs 2 per litre, effective September 11.
OMFED said the procurement-rate hike was aimed at improving returns for dairy farmers amid rising production and transportation expenses.
The increase in cattle feed prices and other essential inputs has contributed to higher costs for dairy producers, prompting the cooperative to revise the procurement rate.
The latest retail price revision means consumers in Odisha will have to spend more on some of OMFED’s widely sold milk products from October 4.
