Odisha IPS officer Shefeen Ahamed K dies during treatment in Thiruvananthapuram

Bhubaneswar: Odisha cadre IPS officer Shefeen Ahamed K, who was serving as Inspector General (IG) in the Crime Branch, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

A 2003-batch IPS officer, Shefeen was a native of Kerala and had been battling cancer. He had been serving as IG in the Odisha Crime Branch since July 2023.

An engineering graduate, Shefeen was the son of Habib, a CITU leader. During his career, he had also served in Kerala on inter-cadre deputation for several years. He had served as the Superintendent of Police (Rural) in Thiruvananthapuram.

Shefeen had held several important positions in the Odisha Police and had received honours and medals for his service, particularly in the Cyber Crime division and the CID Crime Branch.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief over the IPS officer’s death.

In a social media post, Majhi said, “Deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Shefeen Ahamed K, IPS, I.G. of Police, CID, CB.” He said Shefeen’s dedicated service to Odisha and the Odisha Police would always be remembered.

The Chief Minister also conveyed his condolences to Shefeen’s family, colleagues and loved ones and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
