Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to become well-marked and further increase the intensity of rain in different parts of Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.
The low-pressure area now lay over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha -West Bengal coasts. It is likely become well- marked low-pressure area and move north-westwards across north Odisha & Gangetic West Bengal during next two days.
Under its influence, several parts of Odisha are expected to be lashed by heavy to extremely heavy rain over the next five days. The weather system has already triggered heavy downpour in the State.
In its midday weather bulletin, the weather agency has issued a red warning of heavy to very heavy rain at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghapur, and Puri in next 24 hours.
Similarly, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Kataka, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudhagad, Kandhamala, Khordha, Nayagada, and Ganjam during the period. An orange warning has been issued for these districts.
The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for the districts of Baleshwar, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Bargad, Sambalpur, Debagad, Sonpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Gajapati.
On July 16-17, orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued for the districts of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
Yellow warning has been issued for the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Bargad, Dhenkanal, Sonpur, Boudhagada, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagad.
On July 17-18, an orange warning has been issued for Sambalpur, and Anugola districts, while Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Bargad, Debagad, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts have been placed on yellow alert.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph occasionally gusting to 60 kmph is very likely to prevail along & off the Odisha coast till Thursday. Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough along & off the Odisha coast during the period. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast till July 17.
