Kataka: The Office of the Inspector General of Police, Central Range, hosted a comprehensive day-long orientation programme for around 80 newly inducted Sub-Inspectors today at the Padhee Memorial Hall, IPS Officers’ Mess, Kataka.
Organised under the guidance of Vinaytosh Mishra, IPS, DGP (HoPF), Odisha, the event brought together newly appointed officers from across all seven districts under the Central Range: Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh.
Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, Dr Satyajit Naik, IGP, Central Range, Kataka, highlighted the core pillars of effective law enforcement—discipline, integrity, citizen sensitivity, and an unyielding commitment to the rule of law.
Addressing the young officers, Dr Naik stressed the need to constantly upgrade skills to stay ahead of evolving criminal dynamics. “True policing lies in balancing firm legal enforcement with empathy toward the public,” he stated, encouraging the cohort to discharge their duties with impartiality and professional pride.
With digital offences rising nationwide, Shri Madkar Sandeep Sampat, IPS, DIG, Crime Branch, Odisha, delivered a critical session as Guest of Honour on the expanding dimensions of cybercrime. He sensitised the Sub-Inspectors to emerging technological threats, modern investigative tools, and the urgency of developing digital capabilities to combat complex online crimes.
Adding a holistic professional development perspective, Dr Ram Kishore Sharma from National Career Services (and former Head, NCDS, Government of India) guided the officers through career growth strategies, stress management, and workplace ethics, offering realistic insights into maintaining a balanced, responsible approach in high-pressure roles.
The orientation featured direct interaction between the newly inducted SIs and top district leadership. Key insights on field policing, public communication, and operational leadership were shared by senior IPS officers and Superintendents of Police including Parmar Smit, IPS (SP, Khordha), Prateek Singh, IPS (SP, Puri), Vinith Agarwal, IPS (SP, Kataka), Sidharth Kateria, IPS (SP, Kendrapara), Subhendu Patra (SP, Nayagarh) and Ankit Kumar Verma (SP, Jagatsinghpur).
The event was facilitated and coordinated seamlessly by Addl. SP Shri Ashwin Kumar Sahoo and Addl. SP Smt. Minakshi Thakur.
The session provided the probationary officers an invaluable opportunity to clarify operational doubts and learn directly from seasoned field commanders. The programme wrapped up with a collective resolve toward operational excellence, technological readiness, and a compassionate, public-first approach to justice.
