Bhubaneswar: The vacant space beneath the Rajmahal flyover in Bhubaneswar will soon be developed into a parking facility, aiming to ease the growing parking problem between AG Square and Kalpana Square.
The 562-metre-long flyover will get a facelift, with the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) planning to utilise the space underneath it for organised parking. The area will also have seating arrangements for the public and ornamental trees to improve its appearance.
The BDA had floated a tender worth Rs 1.53 crore in August for the development work. The tender process has now been completed, and work is expected to begin soon, BDA Executive Engineer Himanshu Jena said.
The move comes amid growing concerns over the poor condition of the space beneath the flyover. The area has reportedly turned into a gathering spot for people consuming liquor, particularly after evening, due to inadequate maintenance and supervision.
The space has also been used for dumping of waste, resulting in foul smell and an unhygienic environment.
Officials hope that developing the space as a planned parking and public-use area will improve cleanliness, safety and the overall appearance of the busy Rajmahal Square.
