Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police on Wednesday busted an illegal gun manufacturing unit in Kandhamal district and an arms racket in Jharsuguda, arresting three persons in separate operations.
In Kandhamal, one person was arrested for allegedly operating an illegal gun manufacturing unit. The operation uncovered the illegal factory at Labanya nagar area in Tumudibandha tehsil and seized three country-made guns, iron barrels, trigger sets, and machines used for weapon manufacturing including a cutter machine. A local named Daitari Bindhani has been nabbed for his alleged involvement in running this unit.
According to sources, police received credible information about the manufacturing unit after seizing 10 country made guns from Partamaha forest region under Daringbadi police station this week. A team led by Baliguda sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Subham Bhosale under the supervision of Kandhamal SP Vinit Agrawal busted the gun manufacturing unit.
Police have launched an investigation into the larger network of this unit, including its suppliers, a source said.
In Jharsuguda district, Brajrajnagar Police busted an illegal arms racket under “Operation Netra” and arrested two persons, including a notorious criminal. The arrested accused has been identified as Adarsh Dubey alias Bittu, a resident of the Brajrajnagar area. Police said he was allegedly involved in illegally importing and supplying firearms from Bihar to local operatives in the region.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted raids at four different locations under Brajrajnagar police limits. During the operation, police seized one 7.65 mm pistol, two country-made pistols, and four rounds of live ammunition from the possession of the accused.
Jharsuguda SP Gundala Reddy Raghavendra said the operation was carried out under the supervision of the SDPO Brajrajnagar and the leadership of the IIC Brajrajnagar. He said the raid led to the recovery of illegal arms and ammunition and the arrest of two persons involved in the racket.
