World Design Day: Designers for a positive change

Bhubaneswar: The International Design Day held annually on April 27 celebrates the impact of design on society and commemorates the 1963 founding of the International Council of Design (ICoD).

The day encourages designers to use their skills for positive change, focusing on themes like community, resilience, and sustainability. The day honours all facets of design, including form, aesthetics, and functionality.

Additionally, it advances visual communication, graphic design, awareness, promotion, management, and training on a global scale. The purpose of World Design Day is to inspire and increase public awareness of the importance of design.

Each year, a new theme prompts events, workshops, and exhibitions. For instance, “The Spaces In Between” is a focus for 2026, featuring discussions on how to design for connection, often hosted by organizations like the SEGD (Society for Experiential Graphic Design).
