Bhubaneswar: Amid Arnab devasation, several districts in South Odisha are bracing for heavy rainfall and gusty winds starting Monday under the influence of Cyclonic Storm ‘Murasu’, according to IMD Director Manorama Mohanty.
Heavy precipitation is expected to begin in Ganjam and Gajapati on Monday, accompanied by wind speeds reaching 60 kmph. The intensity of downpours will peak on November 3 and 4, bringing widespread rainfall across southern districts.
High-risk zones including Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri are likely to experience extremely heavy downpours. During this peak window, sustained wind speeds of 50 to 60 kmph with gusts up to 70 kmph will sweep the region, posing potential hazards to localised structures and power supply lines.
The weather system is expected to weaken gradually from Nov 5, with rainfall becoming sporadic and isolated. Emergency response mechanisms and local administrative machinery across the southern belt remain on heightened alert to handle severe waterlogging, tree falls, and potential coastal disruptions.
