Cuttack: Senior leader and former vice-president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) Sabitri Chowdhury breathed her last at her home at Tulasipur in Odisha’s Cuttack on Thursday night. She was 85.
According to sources, Sabitri had been suffering from a long-term illness. Chowdhury served as the chairperson of the State Social Welfare Board twice from 1989 to 1990 and 1995 to 2001. She was also a party observer for multiple districts in the past.
In the 2009 elections, she contested from Choudwar-Cuttack Assembly constituency but finished fourth with 8,498 votes. She was the Cuttack District Mahila Congress for a decade, from 1993 to 2003.
Senior Congress leaders, including former minister Bijayalaxmi Sahu and Mohammed Moquim, visited her residence to pay their last respect. OPCC president Bhakta Charan Das also expressed grief over her demise.
