President Murmu’s Mayurbhanj visit postponed over Cyclone threat

Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu’s scheduled two-day visit to her home district of Mayurbhanj has been officially postponed by a week in response to an approaching cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal.

The President was initially slated to tour Rairangpur and surrounding regions on October 28 and 29. However, citing unfavourable weather forecasts and safety precautions, district authorities and official sources confirmed that the itinerary has been deferred.

According to the Mayurbhanj Collector, the programme has not been cancelled but merely rescheduled. President Murmu will now undertake her native visit on November 4 and 5.

During her upcoming two-day tour of Odisha, the President is expected to visit several key locations in her home turf, including her hometown of Rairangpur, the historic Maa Kichakeswari Temple at Bahalda and the mining town of Gorumahisani.

Local administration and disaster management teams across coastal and interior Odisha remain on high alert as the meteorological department monitors the intensifying weather system brewing in the Bay of Bengal. Further updates regarding the revised minute-to-minute itinerary are expected closer to the new dates.
