Bhubaneswar: Prominent politicians, editors, journalists, and people from all walks of life paid rich tribute to veteran journalist Ratikant Mohanty, who passed away recently, at a special memorial meeting held at Geeta Govinda Sadan here on Saturday.
Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, who inaugurated the event, described Mohanty as a source of inspiration and praised his unique reporting style, honesty, and dedication to journalism. Former Finance Minister Prafful Ghadai highlighted Mohanty’s soft-spoken nature and his ability to maintain good relations with politicians without seeking personal favours.
Senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik and former minister Srikant Jena remembered Mohanty’s contributions to Odisha journalism and described his passing as an irreparable loss. The event was organized by the Ratikant Memorial Committee, which was attended by several dignitaries, journalists, and Mohanty’s family members, including his daughters Puja Mohanty and Vandana Mohanty.
A memorial titled ‘Samstanka Priya Rati Bhai’ was unveiled, and a documentary film on Mohanty’s life was screened during the event. Speaker Surama Padhy assured that the Assembly would consider the suggestions made by the Rati Bhai Memorial Committee to perpetuate Mohanty’s memory.
Among others, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, OPCC President Bhakta Charan Das, senior political leaders Devi Prasad Mishra, Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Arun Kumar Sahoo, Sanjay Das Burma, Bijay Nayak, Anant Jena, Sudarshan Das, and Minati Singh; BJP leader Golak Mohapatra; CPI(M) State General Secretary Suresh Panigrahi were present.
