Odisha youth among 4 radicalised men arrested by Delhi police

Bhubaneswar: A youth from Odisha is among four individuals arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell (NDR) in a major crackdown on suspected radical activities linked to extremist ideology. The arrests were made across three states, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Bihar, with two of the accused hailing from Maharashtra and one each from Odisha and Bihar.

According to Delhi Police, the accused were allegedly influenced by radical beliefs centred around the establishment of a Caliphate.

Investigators said they subscribed to the idea of the emergence of a “lashkar from Khurasan” carrying black flags, a concept often associated with extremist propaganda. The Odisha-based accused identified as Sheikh Imran, along with the others, was reportedly part of a network that was not only consuming such content but also actively engaging in spreading it.

Police said the group was allegedly preparing to participate in “Ghazwa-e-Hind” and had been using encrypted social media platforms to radicalise and recruit more individuals.

During the operation, security agencies recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from one of the accused, raising serious concerns about possible terror plans. Officials further revealed that two members of the group were in the process of collecting locally available materials to assemble a remote-controlled IED, indicating preparation for a potential attack.

Investigations have also uncovered that one of the accused was involved in raising funds to support these activities. Using QR codes and bank account details, the individual allegedly mobilised money while assuring recruits of access to arms and physical training.

The Delhi Police described the operation as a significant breakthrough in preventing possible terror activities and said further investigation is underway to trace additional links and networks associated with the accused.
