Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet approved the proposal of amalgamation of ‘Mamata’ scheme with ambitious Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) to bolster maternal welfare, on Wednesday. This merger will see expectant mothers’ benefits increase from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 prior to the birth of a girl child, thanks to the unified Mamata-PMMVY initiative.
Anganwadi workers, who are integral to the success of these welfare schemes, will now receive enhanced incentives. The incentive for these workers has been raised from Rs 200 to Rs 250, while helpers will see an increase from Rs 100 to Rs 150.
A projection over the next five years indicates an allocation of around Rs 2,670 crore for the merged scheme’s implementation, highlighting the Government’s dedication to advancing maternal health, a Women & Child Development department notification stated.
Notably, approval of the State Cabinet to implement MAMATA scheme in convergence with PMMVY has co-branded the two schemes as ‘MAMATA-PMMVY’.
Key features:
- The State Cabinet has decided to jointly implement MAMATA and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana from April 1, 2025. The scheme will be named as MAMATA-PMMVY.
- Earlier, beneficiaries used to get Rs 10,000 for the birth of a girl child under MAMATA Yojana. Now, under MAMATA-PMMVY, they will get Rs 12,000.
- Beneficiaries will receive Rs 10,000 for the birth of a boy child under MAMATA-PMMVY.
- Women from PVTG community will be given Rs 12,000 for the birth of a girl child and Rs 10,000 for the birth of a boy for all live births.
- Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) and Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs), who were earlier getting Rs 200 and Rs 100 respectively as incentive amount, will now get Rs 250 and Rs 150 under MAMATA-PMMVY.
- The eligibility criteria of the Government of India’s PMMVY scheme will also be applicable to the MAMATA-PMMVY scheme.
- In the next five years the expenditure on MAMATA-PMMVY would be about Rs 2,670 crores.
