Puri: The Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) has launched ‘Shree Jagannath Express’, a premium interstate bus service to boost religious and cultural tourism.
The service connects Puri with key pilgrimage sites like Ayodhya, Ujjain, Tirupati, Hyderabad, and Bhilai. This initiative aims to establish Puri as a major spiritual hub, offering devotees comfortable, accessible, and reliable long-distance travel.
Eight Super Premium OSRTC buses have been introduced, with five operating directly from Puri to Ayodhya, Tirupati, Ujjain, Hyderabad, Bhilai. The other buses will ply between Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam, Bhawanipatna and Hyderabad and Raigarh and Hyderabad.
The pricing model promotes inclusivity, charging men Rs 2 per km and women Rs 1 per km with a 50% discount, ensuring spiritual travel is more affordable for everyone.
In addition to these interstate routes, the OSRTC has also announced that Jagannath Express buses would run from all major cities in Odisha to Puri, making it easier for devotees from across the state to attend the Rath Yatra and visit the Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha. Cities expected to be covered include Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Berhampur, Rourkela, and Balasore.
