Bhubaneswar: Odia mountaineer Soubhagya Rath conquered Europe’s highest peak Mt Elbrus on Sunday.
Rath, who is from Nayagarh district, reached the top of 18,510-feet (5,642 metres) high Mt Elbrus at 11.10 am today.
Rath hoisted the National flag atop Mt Elbrus, which is located in Russia. He thus emulated the feat of fellow-Odia mountaineer Sidharth Routray, had scaled Mt Elbrus on May 3.
Rath accompanied another Indian and four Russian mountaineers, along with three trainers. The team reached the summit braving snowfall and extremely cold weather.
He said the blessings of Lord Jagannath helped him climb Mt Elbrus. He expressed his gratitude to Nayagarh Vikash Manch and Akashvani for their support.
Rath had left for Moscow from Delhi on August 5. He embarked on his journey for Mt Elbrus on August 8.
