Bhubaneswar: In response to relentless heavy rainfall and swelling rivers that have severely impacted southern parts of the state, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi conducted an intensive aerial survey on Sunday.
Focusing on the worst-hit districts of Ganjam, Koraput, and Nabarangpur, the high-level inspection aims to evaluate post-flood devastation and fast-track relief operations. During his aerial assessment over Koraput and other affected districts, CM Majhi specifically focused on reviewing widespread agricultural losses and structural damage. Travelling alongside the Chief Minister are Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari and Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Rajesh Prabhakar Patil. Together, the delegation set out from Bhubaneswar to personally monitor ongoing local rescue deployments.
A critical component of Sunday’s aerial inspection includes reviewing the perilous condition of Kalinga Ghati, the vital mountain pass connecting Ganjam and Kandhamala. The route has been officially closed indefinitely for public safety. Consecutive landslides have left massive, dangerous boulders strewn across the path, rendering vehicular movement hazardous.
Following the helicopter-based survey, CM Majhi landed in Koraput district to hold comprehensive review meetings with senior district administrators. During his ground visit to the Koraput district, the Chief Minister inspected the flood-affected areas of Chandili Panchayat and visited the Chandili High School shelter. There, he interacted directly with displaced citizens to understand their hardships, checked the quality of cooked food being served, and held detailed discussions with local leaders and officials regarding swift assistance delivery and relief provision.
The discussions prioritise streamlining immediate supply chains—such as safe drinking water, dry rations, and medical aid—to isolated communities while ensuring that rigorous safety protocols remain active across all vulnerable pockets.
As per the Chief Minister’s directives, relief distribution, rescue operations, provision of drinking water, and healthcare services in the affected areas are ongoing on a war footing. The Chief Minister has issued clear instructions to the district administration and concerned departments to deliver necessary assistance to the affected people on a priority basis.
