Rayagada: A court in Gunupur has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his relative in Sirijholi village under Gunupur block in Rayagada district.
According to reports, the incident took place on July 21 in 2023 when S. Ramesh was sleeping at night. His relative, Singipuram Budu, 55, allegedly attacked him with an axe following a dispute. Ramesh sustained serious injuries in the attack and subsequently died. Following the incident, a person identified as Boshi Buji lodged a complaint at Gunupur police station.
Acting on the complaint, police arrested Budu and initiated an investigation into the murder. The case was heard by Additional District & Sessions Judge Debadatta Patnaik on Monday. After examining the evidence and the statements of 12 witnesses, the court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Budu had been lodged in the Gunupur Sub-Jail as an undertrial prisoner since the day of the murder. Following the court’s verdict, he was formally sent to judicial custody to serve his life sentence.
