JNU Elections: Left bags 3 top posts, ABVP scripts comeback after 10 years

New Delhi: The Left alliance of the All India Students’ Association and Democratic Students’ Front (AISA-DSF) secured three out of the four central panel positions as the fiercely fought Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections came to a close on Sunday.

Nitish Kumar (AISA) was elected as President, Manisha (DSF) as Vice-President, and Munteha Fatima (DSF) as General Secretary.

However, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) marked a significant comeback by winning the Joint Secretary post with Vaibhav Meena. This victory ended a decade-long drought for ABVP in the central panel positions. Additionally, ABVP won 24 of 42 councillor seats, marking its best performance since 1999.

The 2024-25 elections saw a four-cornered contest, with AISA aligning with the Democratic Students’ Front (DSF), while ABVP, and an NSUI-Fraternity alliance fielded full panels.
