Amid Kotia dispute, Andhra Pradesh shifts proposed polling booth

Bhubaneswar: Amid the ongoing territorial dispute between Odisha and Andhra radesh over the Kotia region, the neighbouring state has decided to shift a proposed polling booth from Nerediyelsa village in Kotia to Sarika village in Andhra Pradesh.

The move follows discussions between officials of the two states after Andhra Pradesh’s plan to set up a polling booth in Nerediyelsa drew attention against the backdrop of the long-standing border dispute.

The meeting was attended by Andhra Pradesh Joint Collector Vaishali and Parvathipuram Sub-Collector Sachin. Odisha was represented by Koraput Collector Manoj Satyawan Mahajan and MLAs Raghuram Machha and Raghuram Pedal.

Following the discussions, Andhra Pradesh decided against setting up the proposed polling booth in Nerediyelsa and instead shifted it to Sarika village in its territory.

The development is being viewed as significant in the sensitive Kotia region, which has remained at the centre of a prolonged territorial dispute between the two neighbouring states.

The Kotia border dispute centres on 21 hill villages in Odisha’s Koraput district, over which both Odisha and Andhra Pradesh have staked claims.
