Bhubaneswar: India will take on New Zealand in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium today in search of registering one more ICC trophy against their names.
Adding to the intrigue, these two teams have already met in the tournament, exactly a week ago, at the same venue, no less. This means strategies and adjustments will be firmly in focus as the Black Caps aim to correct what didn’t work a week ago.
The match will be played in Dubai, which has hosted India’s campaign. The pitch offers plenty for bowlers, particularly spinners, who loom large in both lineups for the big contest. More on the spin challenge, for both teams, in a bit.
In the semi-finals, India triumphed over Australia, clinching a four-wicket win thanks to Virat Kohli’s remarkable 84-run innings. Kohli also made headlines earlier in the tournament with an unbeaten 100 against Pakistan, guiding India to chase down a target of 242 with 45 balls remaining. Additionally, Shubman Gill notched his eighth ODI century against Bangladesh.
On the bowling side, Mohammed Shami delivered an impressive five-wicket haul against Bangladesh, while Varun Chakravarthy followed suit with another five wickets against the Black Caps in Dubai.
For New Zealand, Rachin Ravindra has been exceptional, ranking as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament. The left-handed batsman has contributed two centuries against Bangladesh and South Africa, likely boosting his confidence for the final.
In the bowling department, Matt Henry also achieved a five-wicket haul against India in the league stage, with Michael Bracewell, William O’Rourke, and skipper Mitchell Santner proving to be significant contributors as well.
India have not needed to chop and change their squad since the first announcement. New Zealand, unfortunately, have been plagued by injuries with Ben Sears and Lockie Ferguson being replaced by Kyle Jamieson and Jacob Duffy. Coming into the final, the Black Caps are fretting over the availability of Matt Henry.
