Bramhapur: The Badabazar police have busted two fake spice manufacturing units in Odisha’s Bramhapur city and seized around 3,000 kg of adulterated turmeric and chilli powder along with four milling machines.
Two people have been detained in connection with the case, and further investigation is underway.
The raids were conducted late on Sunday night at two locations in the city, one at Seventh Lane in Laxmi Nrusingha Nagar and the other in Prahallad Nagar.
During the raid on a manufacturing unit at Laxmi Nrusingha Nagar, police found sacks of turmeric and chilli powder stored inside the premises. Around 3,000 kg of the spices had been kept in loose form.
According to preliminary information, the operators allegedly mixed colouring agents and rice bran powder with turmeric and chilli powder before packing the products for sale. The spices were sold at lower prices in Bramhapur and its adjoining areas.
Police also found that the unit did not have GST registration. The spice packets carried no brand name, and the products were being sold without proper branding.
In another raid, police searched a spice manufacturing unit in Prahallad Nagar and seized spices and machinery from the premises.
The police have detained one person from each location and are investigating the alleged adulteration, manufacturing and distribution network.
