Baripada: At least eight persons have been taken into custody in connection with a violent clash that took place between two groups of youths inside Baripada Town police station in Mayurbhanj district.
Two separate cases have been registered and eight persons arrested for their involvement in the group clash that took place at the police station on Friday evening. The incident led to vandalism of a car and assault on several youths, creating chaos inside the police station campus.
Sources said a group of youths from Baripada had gone on an outing to Lulung tourist destination. While returning, they reportedly entered into an argument with another group of youths from the Dhanpur area. The verbal exchange soon escalated as the youths from Dhanpur allegedly chased the car carrying the Baripada youths on motorcycles.
The attackers first intercepted the car near a local temple and allegedly assaulted the driver while also damaging the vehicle. In a bid to save themselves, the youths inside the car rushed to Baripada Town police station seeking protection.
However, the rival group allegedly chased them right into the police station campus and again attacked the youths inside the premises.
Before police personnel could fully control the situation, both groups allegedly engaged in a violent scuffle, turning the area in front of the station into a chaotic scene.
Police intervened and brought the situation under control. Several youths from both groups were initially detained for questioning. A detailed investigation was launched to ascertain the exact reason behind the clash. Subsequently, eight persons were taken into custody in connection with the violent incident.
