Dan Utsav: Kids from DAV Pokhariput visit old age home, orphanage

Bhubaneswar: Tiny tots of the morning wing of DAV Public School, Pokhariput, participated in “Dan Utsav” by donating essential food items and sanitary essentials to Missionaries of Charity Old Age Home at Satyanagar and Ashraya, an orphanage at Dumduma here on Tuesday to mark the Joy of Giving Week.

Daan Utsav also known as Joy of Giving Week gives every Indian an opportunity to give back to society. It was launched in 2009 and is held every year during the first week of October (October 2-8).

The kids, along with their supervisor and teachers distributed rice, potatoes, groceries, dry food items, toiletries, phenyl, detergent, talcum powder, new dress materials, bed sheets, blankets, adult diapers etc thereby justifying the phrase “Service to mankind is service to God”.

Every year, the tiny tots under the leadership of the morning wing Supervisor of DAV Public School, Pokhariput, Sanghamitra Satapathy visit the old age homes and orphanages to pledge their support for the inmates and this also helps the kids to learn the art of “Vasudheiba Kutumbakam” or “One world, one family”, which is the essence of the age-old cultural heritage of our nation and it would also help the young students realize the difficulties of other people around us.’’

Principal of the school Bipin Kumar Sahu, while congratulating the kids, suggested and appealed to parents that apart from the activities of the school, kids need to be encouraged to practice “Joy of Giving” round the year and make the “Dan Utsav” a regular affair in their life.
