Bhubaneswar: A minor mistake at a wedding feast took a horrific turn in Odisha’s Baleshwar district when a catering worker was brutally assaulted and left fighting for his life, all because chicken was accidentally served instead of mutton.
The shocking incident took place at Athantar village, under Remuna police limits, during a wedding celebration hosted by the family of Pranabandu Panda.
According to sources, the conflict erupted inside the venue when a young catering worker inadvertently handed a chicken dish to a guest, who had specifically requested mutton. This led to a heated argument between the worker and four minors attending the function. Following the altercation in the hall, the four upset minors waited outside.
When the catering worker wrapped up his shift and stepped out of the venue, the group attacked him from behind with a katuri (a sharp chopper), slit his throat, and inflicted multiple deep slashes across his body. The victim was rushed to the Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital in Baleshwar in critical condition. He was shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his health rapidly deteriorated.
Meanwhile, Remuna Police registered a case and launched an immediate investigation. All four minors were tracked down and apprehended. They have since been forwarded to a juvenile correction and observation home.
