Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in collaboration with the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) has established 33 solar-powered water kiosks across different parts of the city, while construction of eight more kiosks has been completed.
A new solar water kiosk at Patia Square Hanuman temple was inaugurated on Thursday by Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi. As part of the initiative, BMC has operationalised 33 solar water kiosks with a capacity of 3 KW each to provide safe, accessible and sustainable drinking water facilities to citizens, especially during the summer season.
The kiosk inaugurated at Patia Chhak is equipped with advanced water purification and distribution systems, including a water supply pump, a 5,000-litre raw water storage tank, multimedia filter, micron cartridge filter, UV purification system, a 1,000-litre purified water storage tank and a chiller unit for dispensing both normal and cold drinking water.
Addressing the gathering, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi said more such kiosks would be installed at different locations across the city in a phased manner so that citizens can benefit from smart city drinking water facilities.
Bhubaneswar North MLA Sushant Kumar Rout appreciated the joint initiative of BMC and OREDA for strengthening public drinking water infrastructure in the city.
Mayor Sulochana Das said BMC is working towards providing more than 100 such solar water kiosks across Bhubaneswar in the coming days. Among those present on the occasion were local corporator Lakshmipriya Parida, Additional Commissioner Kailash Chandra Das, Deputy Commissioner N. Ganesh Babu and other local leaders.
