Bhubaneswar: A new chapter in Odia journalism began with the launch of the monthly newspaper ‘Bharasa Pratisrutira Pratika’, an initiative aimed at giving a stronger voice to ordinary citizens and promoting responsible, value-based journalism. The inaugural issue of the publication was released on the auspicious occasion of Rath Yatra, symbolising a commitment to public trust and social responsibility.
The launch ceremony, held in Bhubaneswar, brought together public representatives, academicians, journalists and social activists, who expressed confidence that the newspaper would emerge as a credible platform for highlighting public concerns and constructive social issues.
The inaugural edition was formally released by Khordha MLA and Chairman of the District Planning Board, Prasanta Kumar Jagadev, who attended the event as the Chief Guest. Congratulating the editorial team, he said the newspaper has the potential to become a dependable medium that reflects the aspirations, challenges and achievements of the people.
He expressed hope that the monthly would uphold the highest standards of journalism while strengthening democratic values by presenting factual, balanced and meaningful reporting. He also remarked that the publication could serve as a platform to preserve and promote Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, including the legacy of the courageous Paikas, whose contribution to India’s freedom struggle continues to inspire future generations.
The programme was presided over by Ashok Kumar Palatasingh, Editor-in-Chief of the monthly. In his address, he reaffirmed the publication’s commitment to fearless, ethical and people-oriented journalism. He said the newspaper would focus on issues affecting common citizens while encouraging informed public dialogue and positive social change.
Several distinguished personalities attended the function as Guests of Honour. Among them were noted educationist Prof. Dr. Sasanka Sekhar Chudamani, lecturer Manoj Kumar Ray, social worker Khirendra Nath Sahu, State Coordinator of the Paika Mahasangha, Kedar Nath Das, Dalabehera Ramesh Chandra Palatasingh, and senior journalist Sanatan Swain.
The speakers underlined the vital role of the media in a democratic society and stressed the importance of maintaining editorial independence, credibility and professional ethics. They observed that journalism should not only report events but also contribute to building an informed and responsible society by presenting truthful and unbiased information.
The guests extended their best wishes to the editorial team and expressed confidence that the publication would earn the trust of readers through accurate reporting, thoughtful analysis and a steadfast commitment to public interest.
