Balangir: The mystery surrounding the abduction of Balangir businessman has taken a dramatic turn after police revealed that the incident was allegedly linked to a dispute over a rare “Hanuman coin”.
The district police on Sunday revealed the mystery behind abduction of businessman, who was rescued in Bhubaneswar with assistance of the Commissionerate Police and rescued him from Khandagiri. The businessman from Balangir, Narendra Sahu, alias Gunda was allegedly abducted late Friday night and was rescued safely from the Khandagiri area of Bhubaneswar on Saturday, police said.
One person has been detained in connection with the incident. The detained suspect is reportedly from the Kantamal area of Boudh district. Following the rescue, Sahu and the detained suspect were brought to the Balangir Reserve Police Barracks for questioning. They are being interrogated face-to-face in the presence of Balangir Superintendent of Police Abilash G and Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Saroj Kumar Upadhyay.
Police sources said the interrogation has provided information suggesting that the alleged abduction was connected to the “Hanuman coin” matter. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
Sahu was allegedly abducted by unidentified miscreants late Friday night, following which his family approached the Balangir Town police station and sought police intervention.
A special team of the Balangir Police subsequently launched an investigation and traced the businessman to Bhubaneswar.
The safe recovery of Sahu has brought relief to his family as well as the business community in Balangir. Police are continuing their investigation to identify the other persons allegedly involved in the abduction and establish the exact circumstances behind the incident.
