Bhadrak: In a shocking case of alleged property fraud, a woman has accused her husband and two sons of declaring her dead in official records and transferring her land and house in their names in Bhadrak district.
The incident has been reported from Habibnagar under Dhamnagar police limits. The complainant, Aisha Bibi, staged a protest outside the Bhadrak Superintendent of Police’s office, demanding restoration of her property and stringent legal action against those allegedly involved in the fraud.
According to Aisha’s complaint, she had gone on a pilgrimage in 2023 when her two sons allegedly submitted an affidavit claiming that their mother had died around 40 years ago. They allegedly also claimed that she had no daughters.
Based on the alleged affidavit, Dhamnagar Revenue Inspector (RI) Prakash Mallick reportedly submitted a report declaring Aisha dead without conducting proper verification. Her name was subsequently allegedly removed from the land records, and her house and property were transferred in the names of her two sons.
Aisha has alleged that she has six daughters and that the entire episode was carried out to deprive of her property rights. She has also alleged that her husband was behind the entire episode.
After learning about the alleged manipulation of the records, Aisha approached Dhamnagar police on July 10 and lodged a complaint against her two sons, their wives and the RI. She alleged that no concrete action was taken for 18 days after her complaint.
The matter subsequently reached the Bhadrak SP, Manoj Kumar Rout, who reportedly directed Dhamnagar police to take action against the accused. The district administration was also informed in writing about the allegations against the RI, with an assurance that appropriate action would be taken.
According to Arup Avishek Behera, Additional SP, Bhadrak (IUCAW), Aisha alleged that her husband and two sons had shown her as deceased in the land records, following which her name was excluded during the mutation process.
“On July 27, a case was registered at Dhamnagar Police Station and police initiated a probe. The documents produced before the police showed that the trio registered the land in their names by declaring her as dead,” Behera said.
The police have arrested Aisha’s elder son, Sk Taufiq, and said he would be forwarded to court. The Additional SP said the remaining accused would be arrested soon.
Following the police assurance that legal action would be taken against all those found involved, Aisha ended her protest outside the SP’s office. The police investigation is underway, and further action will depend on the findings of the probe.
