Bhubaneswar: The Chameli Ojha issue has escalated from Kendrapada to the heart of Odisha’s capital, with the Tikhiri woman sarpanch launching an indefinite hunger strike at Lower PMG here on Monday.
Demanding stern action against Mahakalapada BDO Rabinarayan Acharya and IIC Manas Mallik, Ojha’s protest has drawn public attention and intensified pressure on the State administration to address her grievances.
She alleged injustice and harassment during an incident at the Mahakalapada block office and vowed to continue her protest until her demands are met. Ojha claimed she was assaulted and verbally abused when she visited the block office to discuss development works. Her mobile phone was allegedly snatched during the altercation. Seeking justice, she began her hunger strike on Monday, calling for immediate legal action against the officials involved.
The protest has drawn attention from social activists and political observers, who say the case highlights growing tensions between grassroots representatives and administrative officials. Police have been deployed at the site to maintain order as the strike continues.
Meanwhile, the incident has sparked renewed debate over accountability in local governance, with demands for a transparent inquiry and protection of elected representatives.
