Woman gold trader attacked, robbed of Rs 36 lakh in Kataka

Kataka: A woman gold trader and her brother were brutally attacked and robbed of Rs 36 lakh in cash near Samrat Hall area on Taladanda Road in Kataka city on Sunday night.

Six miscreants allegedly followed Pinky Shah, who runs a jewellery business in Choudhury Bazaar area, as she was heading toward the OMP square to board a Kolkata-bound bus around 10.45 pm with her brother. She was carrying a bag containing Rs 36 lakh in cash intended for purchasing gold ornaments from Kolkata. They launched a sudden violent assault, using an iron rod and sharp weapons to overpower the victims. The robbers snatched the bag and fled the scene on motorcycles before bystanders could intervene, sources said.

They sustained injuries in the attack and were rushed to a nearby hospital, with the woman later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Her family subsequently lodged a complaint with Madhupatna police, who visited the hospital, recorded her statement and began an investigation. The CCTV footage from adjacent commercial spaces and the main road are being scanned to identify the suspects and trace their escape route.
