Nuapada: Forest officials of Komna division in Nuapada district have arrested four hunters accused of poaching a wild boar using electric wires.
Acting on a tip‑off, a special forest team raided Bhalukona village and caught the accused red‑handed while they were cutting wild boar meat in a paddy yard. Officials seized 2.2 kg of meat from the spot. The arrested men have been identified as Somnath Sahu (51), Madhab Majhi (26), Bhuvan Majhi (40), and Dilip Majhi (28). Forest officials said the group had set up electric wires in the jungle to trap wild boars.
Authorities revealed that the same individuals had been arrested six months ago in a similar poaching case and were sent to court. This time, they were again produced before the court after their arrest.
Forest officials hailed the operation as a significant success in curbing wildlife crimes in the region. They emphasised that poaching through electric traps poses a grave threat to wild animals and warned of strict action against offenders.
