Bhubaneswar: The Department of Business Administration, Utkal University on Saturday successfully organized a national seminar on “Navigating Sustainability: Innovations and Challenges in Emerging Management Practices” with the support of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA 2.0). The seminar aimed to bring together academicians, researchers, policymakers, industry professionals, and students to deliberate on contemporary issues and innovative approaches related to sustainability in management practices.
Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) Jagneshwar Dandapat, Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University, in his inaugural address emphasized the need for academic institutions to play a proactive role in promoting sustainability-oriented research, innovation, and leadership among students and scholars.
While Dr. Rashmita Sahoo, Head of the Department of Business Administration and Seminar Convenor, welcomed the dignitaries and participants, Prof. (Dr.) Sathya Swaroop Debasish, Seminar Director, introduced the theme of the seminar and highlighted the growing importance of sustainable and responsible management practices in the evolving global business environment.
Sahoo also emphasized the importance of integrating sustainability into business practices and management education to address emerging global challenges. The seminar was enriched by the presence of eminent Guests of Honour including Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, Managing Director of Odisha Special Grade Alumina and former CMD of NALCO; Mr. Kedar Ranjan Pandu, Managing Director of Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC); and Dr. Kulamani Biswal, former Director (Finance), NTPC and renowned finance professional, in absentia.
The Keynote Address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Debasish Sur, Professor of Commerce, University of Burdwan, West Bengal. In his address, he emphasized the role of responsible corporate governance, financial accountability, and sustainable management strategies in shaping the future of organizations.
During the seminar, several technical sessions were conducted covering themes such as sustainable business models, circular economy, green entrepreneurship, sustainable finance, responsible investment, sustainable workforce practices, and green marketing. Scholars and researchers from various institutions presented research papers and shared their insights on emerging sustainability challenges and solutions.
The valedictory ceremony was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Mitali Chinara, Chairperson of the Postgraduate Council, Utkal University, as the Chief Guest. In her address, she appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Business Administration and highlighted the importance of research and academic dialogue in addressing sustainability challenges.Dr. Durga Prasad Samontaray, Associate Professor of Finance at King Saud University, Riyadh, attended the valedictory ceremony as the Guest of Honour and shared valuable insights on global sustainability practices and financial governance.
Certificates were distributed to participants and presenters during the valedictory session. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Pallabi Mishra, Organising Secretary and Dr. Abhijit Mohanty, Co-organising Secretary of the seminar, who expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, speakers, participants, organizing committee members, and supporting staff for contributing to the success of the event.
The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, students, and professionals from different institutions, making it a meaningful platform for academic exchange and collaborative dialogue on sustainable management practices.
The inaugural and valedictory sessions of the seminar were hosted and anchored by Shatarupa, a RUSA 2.0 Research Scholar from the Department of Business Administration, Utkal University, who smoothly conducted the proceedings of the programme.
