Bhubaneswar: A woman died after being hit by a speeding vehicle at Aiginia Square under Khandagiri police limits in Odisha capital on Friday morning.
Her identity is yet to be ascertained.
According to sources, the speeding car struck the woman while she was crossing the road carrying a bag of vegetables and then ran over her head as she fell down, leading to her death on the spot.
On being informed, police reached the spot and seized the body for postmortem.
Sources further stated that CCTV footage from the area are being examined to identify the car, which fled the scene soon after the accident. Police are also trying to contact her family using a mobile phone recovered from her belongings. Locals are also being questioned to ascertain her identity as she is believed to be from a nearby locality.
Bhubaneswar had witnessed a similar accident in 2024 on NH-16 near Palasuni Square when a 55-year-old man from Jajpur was run over by a speeding truck while crossing the highway holding a bagful of vegetables.
