NTPC Bongaigaon showcases sporting excellence at regional meet

Guwahati: NTPC Bongaigaon registered a strong and commendable presence at the Intra Regional Sports Meet (IRSM) – ER-II Football and Cricket Tournaments, with its teams and players delivering consistent performances and earning multiple individual and team recognitions across both sporting disciplines.

The tournaments concluded with a formal closing and prize distribution ceremony, during which the participating teams ceremonially handed over the trophies of both football and cricket to the Head of Project and senior officials of the HR Department. Subsequently, Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, formally handed over the trophies, congratulating the teams and appreciating the discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship displayed throughout the competitions.

Outstanding individual performances by NTPC Bongaigaon employees were recognised during the football tournament. Narkhw Narzary was awarded the Golden Boot Award for his impressive goal-scoring performance, emerging as one of the standout players of the tournament. Khwmdwn Narzary received the Golden Gloves Award for his consistent and reliable performance as goalkeeper, playing a crucial role in the team’s defensive strength.

The Man of the Match awards in football further highlighted the individual brilliance of NTPC Bongaigaon players. Narkhw Narzary received the award for two matches, while Suraj and Rajib were each awarded Man of the Match for one match, recognising their decisive contributions during key fixtures.

NTPC Bongaigaon also recorded notable achievements in the cricket tournament. At the team level, Team NTPC Bongaigaon secured the Runner-Up position in the Men’s Cricket Tournament, reflecting consistent performances and competitive spirit across league and knockout matches.

Several players from NTPC Bongaigaon earned individual accolades for their performances with the bat. Shri Abhijit Ghosh was adjudged the Best Bat of the Tournament and also received the award for Most Fours of the Tournament, underlining his consistency and match-winning batting contributions. Shri Jitendra Mohanty was recognised with the award for Best and Most Sixes of the Tournament, highlighting the team’s strong middle-order batting strength.

The Man of the Match awards in cricket were presented to Shri Mukarram, Shri Tamal Kanti Paul and Shri Jitendra Mohanty, acknowledging their impactful performances and key roles in match outcomes during the tournament.

Addressing the gathering, Arnab Maitra highlighted the importance of sports and IRSM in promoting teamwork, discipline, leadership and a healthy work-life balance. He appreciated the players, organisers and HR Department for their efforts in ensuring the smooth conduct of the tournaments and for fostering a culture of sports and wellness within NTPC.
