Rourkela: What began as an ordinary morning turned into a life-threatening ordeal for 24-year-old Swayamprabha Behera of Barsuwan in Sundargarh district. After consuming a simple ‘bara’ from a local market on Wednesday, she suddenly fell ill, experiencing severe vomiting and rapidly deteriorating health.
Her family rushed her to the Rourkela Government Hospital, and later to Hi-Tech Medical College in a desperate attempt to save her. However, when she could not be admitted to the ICU there, her anxious husband made a critical decision—he immediately took her to Apollo Hospitals in Rourkela. By the time they arrived, Swayamprabha’s condition had become extremely critical, leaving her family in deep distress.
At Apollo Hospitals, she was swiftly admitted to the Critical Care Unit, where a dedicated medical team led by Dr. Chetan Reddy began intensive treatment. Battling a rare and severe form of food poisoning, her condition remained fragile, testing both the resilience of the patient and the expertise of the doctors.
After two days of continuous care and medical vigilance, hope finally prevailed. Swayamprabha showed remarkable recovery, bringing immense relief to her family. Doctors described her case as extremely rare—one in a thousand—and termed her recovery a significant medical success.
What could have been a tragic loss turned into a story of survival, timely intervention, and the relentless efforts of healthcare professionals who helped bring her back from the brink, said her husband.
