Utkal University observes Samvidhan Hatya Diwas

Bhubaneswar: The Department of Political Science and Department of Public Administration jointly organised a seminar on ‘Preamble of the Indian Constitution’ to mark the Samvidhan Hatya Diwas on Wednesday.

The seminar was graced by Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University Prof. J. Dandapat, Chairperson of PG Council, Prof. Mitali Chinara, Registrar Utkal University, Dr. Swati Mishra, Head, Department of Political Science, Dr. Seema Mallik, Head Department of Public Administration, Dr. Pratima Sarangi and the keynote speaker for the day Prof. Swarnamayee Tripathy. 

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dandapat emphasized on the urgency to restore trust and faith in the democratic institutions of the nation and revival of the ideals and values enshrined in the Indian Constitution.

Elaborating on the background against which the Samvidhan Hatya Diwas is being observed, Prof. Tripathy reiterated the fact that natural rights of the individual citizens can and should never be infringed upon and that 25th June is a day that reminds us of the fact that the majority need not always be right and any arbitrariness in the process of governance needs to checked and eliminated in order to strive towards a greater civilization.

The seminar held at Department of Political Science saw a good number of participation from the faculty, students and research scholars of various departments of the university.

The seminar began with a welcome address by the head of the Department of Political Science Dr. Seema Mallik followed by brief remarks by the Head of Department of Public Administration Dr. Sarangi and Chairperson, PG Council. The seminar concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Swapna Prabhu.
