Two illegal firecracker units busted in Jagatsinghpur, 3 arrested

Jagatsinghpur: Two days after the death of two persons in a firecracker blast at Mahilo in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, police busted two illegal cracker manufacturing units in the same village and arrested three persons.

In a major crackdown, Tirtol Police conducted raids at two residential houses in the village on Saturday following credible information about the illegal manufacturing and storage of explosive substances, a senior police official said.

The accused, Abhimanyu Nayak (68), Nrusingh Charan Rout (52) and Suresh Chandra Das (56), were allegedly engaged in the illegal manufacture of firecrackers and crude bombs.

Police seized a large quantity of firecrackers, gunpowder, bombs and other explosive materials during raids on the two houses.

The crackdown comes in the wake of the October 8 explosion at Mahilo village that killed a father-son duo and left three others, including two women, with severe burn injuries. Investigators suspect the blast occurred at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit.

“Jagatsinghpur Police remains committed to ensuring public safety and preventing the illegal manufacture and storage of explosive substances,” said a senior police officer.
