Two elderly patients walk again after advanced surgeries at Apollo Hospitals

Rourkela: For many elderly people, severe joint pain often means giving up the simple joys of life—walking freely, climbing stairs, or even moving without assistance. But for two patients in Rourkela, that story has taken a remarkable turn.

At Apollo Hospitals Rourkela, two senior citizens have not only regained their mobility but also rediscovered their independence after undergoing advanced joint and hip replacement surgeries. Their inspiring recovery journeys were shared during a press conference at the hospital, where they spoke with gratitude and relief about their transformation.

One of the patients stunned doctors by walking independently just four hours after surgery, a milestone that reflects the rapid advancements in orthopaedic care. The other patient, who had suffered a severe fall and required hip replacement, is now walking smoothly again, free from the pain that once limited everyday life.

The surgeries were performed by Dr. Avinash Choudhury, a consultant orthopaedic and joint replacement surgeon, who highlighted how modern techniques are changing patient outcomes. “Seeing patients walk within hours and return to normal life so quickly is incredibly rewarding,” he said. “With minimally invasive procedures, precision implants, and proper rehabilitation, recovery is faster, less painful, and more effective than ever before,” he added.

Both patients, who are associated with the South Eastern Railways, shared emotional accounts of their recovery, expressing heartfelt thanks to the medical team. For them, the surgeries were not just medical procedures—they were a second chance at living life fully.

Apollo Hospitals Rourkela also emphasized its mission to make advanced healthcare accessible and affordable for people in western Odisha. With world-class orthopaedic services now available locally, patients no longer need to travel to big metropolitan cities for complex procedures, a release said.
