Bhubaneswar: Healing Tourist, a medical second-opinion and treatment facilitation platform, has launched its services for independent medical review, transparent patient information and responsible treatment facilitation in India.
Headquartered in Bhubaneswar, the platform helps patients obtain specialist reviews of their existing medical records. When patients elect to seek treatment in India, Healing Tourist assists with coordinating their treatment journey.
Director of Healing Tourist Chidatmika Khatua said patients can first submit their medical records for independent specialist review to better understand their diagnosis, treatment options and whether traveling to India for treatment should be considered at all. Beginning with its first Quarterly Transparency Report, the company will publish the proportion of reviewed cases in which its specialist panel advises patients not to travel for treatment. Healing Tourist plans to publish its first Quarterly Transparency Report following the end of Q4 2026, she said.
Specialist reviewers are paid a fixed professional fee for each review. Their compensation is the same whether they recommend treatment, advice against travel, or suggest that the patient continue care closer to home. Reviewers do not receive additional compensation based on whether a patient subsequently travels or books treatment through Healing Tourist, she added.
“A medical tourism platform should be willing to tell a patient not to become a medical tourist. Before asking where someone should travel for treatment, we believe the first question should be: Does this patient actually need to travel? We are publishing how often our specialists say no because patients should be able to see whether that independence exists in practice,” Khatua said.
Healing Tourist has structured its platform around two distinct stages – independent medical review and treatment facilitation. Patients can securely submit their existing medical records for review and receive a written second opinion from a specialist. The purpose is to provide an additional clinical perspective on the patient’s condition and treatment options, including whether seeking treatment in India may be appropriate.
There is no requirement for a patient receiving a second opinion to subsequently use Healing Tourist for treatment facilitation. If a patient independently decides to pursue treatment in India, Healing Tourist can then help coordinate the journey, including identifying appropriate hospitals and specialists, coordinating medical information, treatment planning, obtaining estimated costs, scheduling and travel-related assistance.
Healing Tourist’s clinical network comprises around 200 specialists across seven medical disciplines, providing access to expertise across several areas of specialty and complex care. The initial specialties include Cardiology, Oncology, Orthopedics, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Plastic Surgery, Fertility and Reproductive Medicine. The specialist network is expected to expand as Healing Tourist adds additional clinical disciplines and participating healthcare providers.
For patients who ultimately elect to pursue treatment in India, Healing Tourist aims to provide greater visibility into expected costs before travel by coordinating treatment plans and obtaining estimated or agreed pricing from participating providers wherever feasible.
Cross-Border Service
Healing Tourist has established a defined separation between international medical-record review and treatment delivered after a patient travel to India. For patients located outside India, Healing Tourist’s service is structured around the review of existing medical records and the provision of written specialist opinions. The platform does not position these services as a replacement for a patient’s local physician, emergency medical care, or an in-person clinical examination.
Healing Tourist does not provide cross-border video consultations, diagnoses or prescriptions as part of this service. When a patient elects to travel to India, diagnosis, treatment decisions, procedures and prescriptions remain the responsibility of the appropriately licensed treating medical professionals and healthcare institutions.
India has developed substantial capabilities across specialty medicine, complex procedures and hospital-based care. But Healing Tourist believes access to those capabilities should begin with determining whether international travel is appropriate for the individual patient. That distinction forms the basis of the company’s positioning. The platform will help patients evaluate specialists, hospitals, treatment options, costs and travel arrangements in India, a press release of the company said.
