Three siblings held over Rs 25 lakh investment fraud

Sambalpur: The district police has arrested three siblings for allegedly cheating a man of around Rs 25 lakh by promising him high returns on his investment. Police also seized Rs 15.5 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth around Rs 12 lakh from the accused.

The arrested persons have been identified as Jharana Badi, Rajesh Badi and Rajkumari Badi, residents of Puruna Basti under Jharsuguda Town police limits.

According to the complaint filed by Lipak Kumar Pradhan, Jharana introduced herself as Disha Agrawal and approached him with a promise of high returns on investment.

She introduced her brother as her boyfriend and convinced the complainant to invest a large amount of money.

On June 24, 2026, Lipak met Jharana at Hotel Kamalesh Continental in Anugola. He handed over ₹25 lakh to her and more than Rs 20 lakh to the man introduced as her boyfriend. The accused left the place with the money and disappeared.

Following the complaint, Sambalpur police launched an investigation and traced the accused to a rented house in the Sambalpur area. A raid was subsequently conducted, leading to the arrest of the three siblings.

During the raid, police seized 20 mobile phones, a laptop, an Activa scooter and fake Aadhaar cards, besides other materials linked to the fraud.
