Six arrested with illegal firearms & ammunition during raids in Rourkela

Rourkela: Bandamunda Police in Odisha’s Rourkela have arrested six members of a criminal gang amid the ongoing crackdown on illegal arms trade and gang activity, prompted by a recent surge in firearm-related incidents in the city.

Roukela Additional SP Raj Kishore Mishra identified the mastermind as Bitu Tanti, who has around 34 cases pending against him. “The six were apprehended during raids yesterday. Four pistols, one revolver, 15 live ammunition, four magazines, swords, a dagger, and five mobile phones used for coordinating crimes, were seized from them,” he said.

Mishra further stated that those arrested procured arms and ammunition from Jharkhand and Bihar and later sold those in Rourkela. They are linked to a local network involved in arms trafficking and extortion.

The seized items have been sent for forensic test and further investigation is underway, he added.
