Siddhant Mohapatra calls for preserving Odia language

Bhubaneswar: On the second day of media fest organized by the department of journalism and mass communication of Rama Devi Women’s University, MLA and actor Siddhant Mahapatra expressed concern over increasing distortions in the Odia language and urged the media to use pure language responsibly.

Speaking as the chief guest at the “Media Antara” fest of Rama Devi Women’s University on Friday, he said that in the rush for breaking news, accuracy is often compromised, even though people tend to believe whatever is broadcast. He emphasized the need for careful verification of information.

Sharing humorous anecdotes from his acting days, he also spoke about dealing with a fake Facebook account that was mistaken as his real one. Calling for social responsibility, he noted that every accident has underlying causes that must be addressed.

Head of the department Dr. Ambika Sankar Mishra welcomed the guests, while Mr. Amit Mallick highlighted the importance of professional skills and truthful reporting over TRP-driven content.

Vice-Chancellor of the university professor Chandi Charan Rath raised concerns about environmental degradation and praised the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication for hosting the fest.

An awareness video, Samaya, produced by Girija Memorial Road Safety Foundation Trust, was released. Trust Chairperson Amiya Bala Parida spoke on road safety. Senior journalists Ramajiban Gochhayat and Debashis Samal were felicitated.

Also the Winners of various competitions were awarded, and the event was conducted by students of the Journalism & Mass Communication Department, including Chinmayee Jena.
