Baripada: Continuous heavy rainfall has triggered a flood-like situation in Khunta block of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, with floodwater inundating several villages and disrupting road communication.
Floodwater has been flowing over State Highway-19 and the Naluha river bridge, cutting off communication on the Udala-Khunta-Baripada route. The situation has severely affected vehicular movement in the area.
Several villages under Karakia, Bholagadia, Dengam, Sapanachua, Badapathara and Gadigaon gram panchayats have been surrounded by floodwater. With the water level continuing to rise, concerns among residents have increased.
The block administration has started arrangements to shift flood-affected families to safe locations. Steps are also being taken to provide dry food to those affected by the flooding, Khunta BDO Satyajit Rout said.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as heavy rainfall continues to affect the region.
