Senior journalist Ratikanta Mohanty passes away

Bhubaneswar: Senior Odia journalist Ratikanta Mohanty passed away on Saturday at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar while battling kidney-related ailments. He was 70 and is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Several journalists and other distinguished individuals visited his residence in Unit 3 to pay tribute to the departed soul. Mohanty had extensive experience in the field of journalism and worked for Asian Age, Hindustan Samachar, Odia daily Paryabekhak, and Dinalipi. His death has created a significant void in the field of Odia journalism in Odisha.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep condolences on the demise of Mohanty. Majhi said, “I am saddened and shocked to hear the news of the demise of senior journalist Ratikanta Mohanty. He was well known in the social and political spheres of the state as Rati Bhai.”

The Chief Minister added that Mohanty would be remembered for his honesty, impartiality, and dedication throughout his long career in journalism. “I pray for the eternal peace of his soul and express my condolences to the bereaved family,” Majhi stated.

Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also expressed deep condolences on the passing of Ratikanta Mohanty. In his condolence message, Patnaik said the late Mohanty was fully dedicated to his profession. His skills and commitment to journalism were unparalleled. “We have lost an exemplary journalist and a good human being,” he added.

Patnaik expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul. According to family sources, the mortal remains of Mohanty were taken to Puri Swargadwar for the final rites.
