Bhubaneswar: Event though schools across Odisha will reopen on June 18 after summer vacation, the Subarnapur and Anugola district administrations have suspended classes in all anganwadi centres, schools, colleges, technical institutions, and other educational institutions in the district until June 20 to protect students from the scorching temperatures.
“As the heatwave condition conditions persist in the district, it is hereby ordered that all the Anganwadi Centres (AWCs), Schools, Colleges, Technical Institutions and other educational institutions will remain closed until 20.06.2026,” the notification issued by the office of Subarnapur District Magistrate said on Wednesday.
While regular classes have been suspended, the administration clarified that all previously scheduled examinations will proceed as planned. To minimise students’ exposure to the peak afternoon heat, these examinations will be conducted strictly during morning hours. “The Heads of the Institutions are instructed to ensure adequate provisions of safe drinking water and necessary heat-wave precautionary measures for students and staff,” it added.
Similarly, the Anugola district administration extended the summer vacation for schools until June 20, citing the intense heatwave conditions across the region. Authorities confirmed that schools will reopen on June 22. This comes amid a heatwave warning for western Odisha districts by India Meteorological Department for two days.
