Rift between Trump & Musk widens

Washington: The strained ties between US president Donald Trump and Elon Musk reached yet another level on Friday after the latter dropped hints that he may enter politics by launching a new political party.

Musk even suggested the name of the new party. He said that it could be called The America Party. The Tesla CEO also conducted a poll on X and said that he has received support from 80% of the respondents.

“The people have spoken. A new political party is needed in America to represent the 80% in the middle!” Musk wrote, “And exactly 80% of people agree. This is fate.”

Musk had earlier slammed Trump’s “big, beautiful bill”, calling it a “disgusting abomination”. The President said he was “very disappointed” with the former DOGE chief, saying his friendship with Musk may not survive.

Musk hit back at Trump again, saying the Republican would have lost the presidential election against Kamala Harris if he had not backed him.

The US president slammed Musk for betrayal, threatening to cut the billionaire’s government contracts. He even went on to call Musk “a man who has lost his mind”.

Musk then said it is “time to drop the really big bomb”, saying Trump is in the Epstein files. “That is the real reason they have not been made public.”

In the past, several famous personalities in the US had floated political parties but they failed to make a dent on the votebanks of the Republicans and Democrats. Among those who endorsed Musk’s initiative was First Take on ESPN host Stephen A Smith. “Mr. @elonmusk I’m all for moving America to the CENTER. I’m definitely down for that cause! Sign me up!!!,” he posted.
