Khurda: Tension prevailed at Bolagarh in Odisha’s Khurda district on Wednesday after a group of elected representatives allegedly turned violent during while staging a protest and vandalised the official vehicle of the Block Development Officer (BDO).
The incident took place amid ongoing protest that has continued for the past 10 days, with the demonstrators demanding the immediate transfer of BDO Suman Sudha Kundu.
After nine days of agitation by local elected representatives, including the block chairperson, the situation turned chaotic when protesters attempted to enter the block office, leading to confrontation with police.
The protesters alleged that the BDO disrespected the local MLA by skipping the joint Republic Day parade and celebrations, remaining absent from the program, and allegedly insulting elected representatives. They also made claims of arbitrary administration, and non-cooperation in development projects.
The agitation escalated dramatically when the protesters allegedly indulged in vandalism and damaged the BDO’s official vehicle. They also clashed with police personnel, who responded with heavy deployment. Senior police officials visited the site to monitor the situation and take steps to prevent any further flare up.
The demonstrators threatened to intensify their agitation if the BDO is not removed.
