New Delhi: In a significant reshuffle, President Droupadi Murmu Tuesday appointed two new governors and reassigned three others, reorganising the leadership in five states.
Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati was appointed as the new Governor of Odisha after Raghubar Das resigned from the position. Dr Kambhampati, a former MP from Andhra Paradesh’s Visakhapatnam Constituency, was the Governor of Mizoram. As per a press communiqué, from the President’s Secretariat, “The President of India has accepted the resignation of Shri Raghubar Das as Governor of Odisha.”
Raghubar Das was appointed to the position of Governor on October 18, 2023, Das’ tenure was marked by various initiatives aimed at strengthening the governance of the state.
Ajay Kumar Bhalla, a seasoned administrator, has been appointed as the new Governor of Manipur, replacing Anusuiya Uikey. Bhalla takes charge amid escalating violence and a deepening ethnic conflict in the state. Over a year since the ethnic strife began in May 2023, the conflict remains unresolved, leaving governance in disarray.
Another key appointment is Arif Mohammed Khan, the Governor of Kerala, who has been reassigned to Bihar. Notably, Khan was involved in a protracted public tussle with the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government in the state.
General (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh, a decorated retired officer, who will now serve as the Governor of Mizoram. Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, the Governor of Bihar, has been reassigned to Kerala.
