PMGSY-IV launched in Rayagada, Odisha gets 274 new roads

Rayagada: The much-anticipated fourth phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-IV) was officially launched in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Friday.

Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi attended the launching ceremony at a public event in Rayagada.

During the program, a total of 827 road projects were approved under PMGSY-IV, aimed at enhancing rural connectivity across the state. Rayagada district, which has secured the highest number of projects under this phase, stands out with a remarkable share of 274 roads being earmarked for construction.

The approval of these projects is a major step towards improving the infrastructure in Odisha’s rural and tribal areas, where access to essential services has been limited by underdeveloped road networks.

With a total estimated expenditure of Rs 562.10 crore, these new road projects are expected to benefit 314 rural habitations in the district, connecting them to better healthcare, education, and markets, which will foster local economic growth. The construction of 552.21 kilometers of new roads will further enhance the district’s infrastructure, promoting ease of movement and improving livelihoods in remote areas.

Rayagada’s allocation underscores the government’s commitment to improving connectivity and development in Odisha’s most marginalized regions, contributing to long-term socio-economic progress.
