Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government announced plans to set up dedicated shelter homes for differently-abled women and girls under the existing SAHAYA scheme.
The new facilities, to be named Sahaya Gruha, will provide safe accommodation, care, and rehabilitation support for vulnerable groups across the state.
The Department of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities issued directives to all district collectors, asking them to submit feasibility reports for establishing these homes in areas with significant demand and a sizable number of beneficiaries. Collectors have been instructed to evaluate available infrastructure, assess potential beneficiaries, and identify additional requirements for setting up the facilities.
Special Secretary Rajani Jani, in an official communication, stressed the urgency of the matter and directed districts to furnish detailed reports at the earliest. Districts that do not require such facilities have been asked to formally communicate this to the department.
The circular stated: “You are also requested to furnish the non-requirement of such facility in your district to this department, if applicable.” The directive excludes Balasore, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Sundargarh, and Subarnapur, which have been deemed outside the scope of the present exercise.
